"Your carcasses will be food for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to frighten them away."
Deuteronomy 28:26
The believing mind is externally impervious to evidence. The most that can be accomplished with it is to induce it to substitute one delusion for another. It rejects all overt evidence as wicked... H.L. Mencken
"Pope Benedict also asserted that the Roman Catholic Church was in the forefront of the battle against AIDS. "You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms," the pope said aboard his plane to Cameroon. "On the contrary, it increases the problem."
The pope said that a responsible and moral attitude toward sex would help fight the disease."
Technically speaking, the Pope is incorrect about this -- a layer of latex wrapped around a penis not only keeps sperm contained for later disposal, it also forms a barrier that keeps the aids virus from being transmitted from one person to another.
A 'responsible and moral' attitude is to be desired by almost everyone alive in the world today. To sentence large numbers of people to die for this ideal seems unchristian at best. Unlike the Pope, people are fallible and sometimes do things under passion or stress that they know are wrong. It seems a rough beast of a judgment to have people die for the cross, again, but hey, it's getting to seem pretty routine -- sort of a cost of doing business with an old testament god.
Jesus would probably tell people to be good to each other and have safe sex, unfortunately, just like Famous Amos, Jesus got sold to the man and his stuff's not as tasty anymore, though the package still looks the same.
