Why I No Longer Backpack Alone

Why I No Longer Backpack Alone - 2008-07-13 20:26

Why I no longer backpack alone

Warm in clothes from home,
on a mountain’s top.
Like Moses staff I stand,
And sense of self departs.

All but me removed,
from the am that thinks these thoughts
Distractions from the living,
That accounts for my moving in time.

With those things no more
I remain
face open and up
to now around me.

I cannot stop the waves,
Of overwhelming aloneness.
